You guys know that I’m a sucker for children’s chapter books. I love the humor. I love the zany situations. I love when a child really embraces an author and a series. All of this is my jam, which brings me to today’s post.
Below is a list of ten rad chapter book series for kids. (I’m trying to bring back the word “rad.” Could you tell?)
This is a super fun series. I love idioms and sayings that inspire kids to play with words, and these books have them aplenty.
Ramona Quimby is all things dramatic. Personally, I love that about her. I love to exponentially experience life with her.
Oh, man, this game—I mean, book—is fun. 😊 Action, mystery, this series has it all! That little gamer in your life will totally dig it.
Goodness, this series is creative, and what exciting adventures! Kids (and adults) will love dreaming of the endless possibilities!
5. Keena Ford
These gems have tons of humor. Kids will also find well-written, relatable situations.
Stink is a lot of fun. The chapters are hilarious and the perfect length for bedtime. You have to check out the audio books too. His voice is AWESOME.
These books have fewer words than the rest on this list, but they really are a great way to begin chapter books. The main characters are super likeable. The illustrations are vibrant. I always like that the problems and issues in the stories aren’t especially complicated. That can be a nice change of pace.
What I really like about this series, is the “scenery.” Kids get to “travel” to some really cool cities. I’m always up for wholesome books too.
This series earned a place on this list, because, as a kid, my husband loved these books. The adventures are wild. The lessons are meaningful.
Did you know that there is a more recently published Hardy Boy series? It’s The Hardy Boys Secret Files Collection. I’m including the old and new series here. The older Hardy Boys has more advanced vocabulary, but, with the new series, the more modern take is pretty appealing.

Am I going to use this extra moment for a little personal promotion? I suppose the answer is yes, but, you guys, I have to include my own chapter book series, the Teeny Sweeney series. I wouldn’t include it, if I didn’t think it’s 100% rad! (Did you catch that? It’s totally becoming a part of your vocabulary!) Humor is something I always keep in mind with this series, as well as wholesome fun, and completely zany situations.
