A List of Children’s Books for October

Goodness, I adore October. Everything is fall-colored, and scents of cinnamon fill the crisp air. Well, in Texas, it might not be exactly crisp air yet, but I can see the light at the end of the warm-ish tunnel. Another wonderful aspect of fall is the smattering of cozy reads, littering the library and bookstore shelves. I can’t help but partake, and below is a list of my findings. Enjoy!

Duck and Goose Find a Pumpkin by Tad Hills

Who doesn’t enjoy a good Duck and Goose book? And look at how those cover colors POP! This is a very simple children’s story–even for a Duck and Goose book, but, at times, simple is just the ticket. Children will enjoy the famous duo’s hunt for that beautiful pumpkin.

The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming

A Squirrel & Bird Book: The Leaf Thief (Hardcover)

Oh my, the illustrations in this book are just stunning. The story is exciting and oozes fall. How creative! One of Squirrel’s beautiful leaves is missing! Readers will enjoy Squirrel and Bird, as these characters are all kinds of wit and fun.

The Berenstain Bears Halloween is Sweet! by Stan and Jan Berenstain

Halloween Is Sweet (the Berenstain Bears) - by Stan Berenstain & Jan Berenstain (Board Book), 1 of 2

You will almost always find a Berenstain Bear book on one of my lists. I just can’t seem to help it. Berenstain books are bright, fun, and wholesome. I love to bring in a holiday or special time of year with a book in this series, and this is a fun one during the spooky season. Like many, we enjoy the fall festivities, like Halloween and fall festivals, but we like to sit on the less creepy side. This book does that. It’s about candy and fun.

The Boy and the Moon by James Christopher Carroll

If I can add this book to any list, I do. It is probably my favorite children’s book. Carroll does a brilliant job of combining endearing with a splash of spooky, and you will definitely want to add this gem to your fall books.
